In Memory of Bev Given
Bev Given passed away on December 25, 2021, from complications from ALS while on vacation in Jamaica. She was born in San Antonio, Texas and moved to El Paso at the age of 8. She attended Coronado High School and received a bachelor’s in education from the University of Northern Colorado.
She was a dedicated employee of the El Paso Independent School district for 34 years and taught at various campuses throughout her celebrated career. Teaching was her passion and over the years she impacted thousands of students, which led to her recognition as Outstanding Gifted and Talented Teacher of the Year for the state of Texas in the 1990s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Richard J. Harris, MD and his wife of 62 years Sonya Davidson Harris. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Rick Given, three daughters Amy (Kevin), Leah (Don), and Bess, as well as her brother Brent Harris, and his children Jacob and Megan. She is also survived by her six grandchildren Kendall, Bella, Lincoln, Kelsey, Benjamin, and Charlie Kay.
She will be remembered for her warmth, grace, and a smile that lit up every room she walked into. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 8th at Billy Crews in Santa Teresa from 2-5pm. We welcome you to come and go as you please.
